Westmeath’s Fittest Company 2016
So now the dust has settled and already some have started to prepare for next year's event!! Great to see so many determined to keep up their fitness regime. A good decision that will improve all aspects of your work and personal life.
As per the Examiner, “when the O’Briens Motor Group Team emerged out of the water from the kayak section of their first heat they were several minutes behind their nearest rivals & didn’t look like overall winners. Not at that stage. About 10 minutes later, however, they had taken second place in that heat and had a place among the eight teams in the final. A combination of strength, technique, and critically, teamwork, meant the quartet, JP O’Brien, Lorcan Caffrey, Shane Jessop & Adam Donohue, went on to take first place overall, knocking Mergon International off the perch they had occupied since Westmeath’s Fittest Company started in 2014”
It was an intense morning of activity in the Lilliput Adventre Centre, in Mullingar, where 28 teams of 4, met to compete for the 2016 title of Westmeaths Fittest Company. The 12 weeks of training which began in February kicked started their year & set up good habits for the coming months.
The course was made up of 4 parts, kayaking, a strength test, involving the lifting and carrying of sandbags and water drums over hilly terrain only then to face into a challenging bog course with already tired arms and legs & finally a run to the finish were all team members needed to cross the line to be considered for a place.
The event is as usual not just about fitness. Again this year we partnered with LARCC, the Cancer Support Sanctuary, and managed to raise a final total of €17,024.56. Special mention has to be given to the team to raise the most funds. I think you will all agree that €3465.80 from the Mr Crumb team comprising of Justin Mc Dermott, Emma Douglas, Aron Fahey and Gary Keogh is quite an achievement. We were delighted to present to them vouchers to the value of €300 courtesy of TRI & RUN Mullingar. Big thanks to Dorothy Duffy for sponsoring the prize.
Justin Mc Dermott took away the Thalgo hamper from Whelehans pharmacy. Justin was the individual to raise the most for LARCC coming in with €2573.80 in total. Thanks to Eamon Brady from Whelehans for the prize.
Our All Ladies Winning Team comprising of Nuala Daly, Aine Kiernan, Patricia Finerty & Mairead Sheerin from Mullingar Health Centre took away a prize sponsored by KC Sports comprising of Sports Bags and hats.
Our winning team O’Briens Motor Group, JP OBrien, Shane Jessup, Lorcan Caffrey & Adam Donohoe came away with an advertising package sponsored by Celtic Media Group which gives them €2000 worth of advertising spread across the Westmeath Examiner & Westmeath Independent. Each team member received 10 free classes from Maurice Looby Fitness to help keep them in shape for next year so they can come back and defend their title as Westmeath's Fittest Company 2016
In close second place and mention has to be given to Trend Technologies who pulled out all the stops on the day. What a display of team effort and pure determination. Well done to all involved. This team was made up by Stephen Molloy, Michael Boyle, Liam Reilly & Stephen Lynam.
In very close 3rd place were Mergon International. It took 3 attempts to beat you guys who proudly and deservedly carried the title for 2014 & 2015!!! Making up this team were Gary Kelly, Eoin Nugent, Colm Dardis & Alan Doyle.
Big thank you to Briga Gorman from LARRC who represented the charity on the night of our presentation in the Greville Arms Hotel.
Big thanks to the team who were working with us behind the scenes, Daragh Clerkin, Ciarán Heaney, Seamus Goonery & Caroline James Hillick
